  • Faith Formation and Sacrament Preparation

    • Family Faith Formation
      • We believe that Faith Formation (aka, CCD) is more than a class; it is an invitation to a way of life.  A way of life that brings storm-weathering peace while brimming with the excitement of unlocking our greatest potential. This life is for the young and old alike, from a baby’s first breath to our final moments before we meet our Lord.

This is why it is time for us to reimagine how we form our faith.  Because our God is not content in being confined to the classroom; He longs to break out into our hearts, into our homes, into our families, and beyond.

Family Faith Formation for Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, St. Casimir, and St. Mary's Parishes gathers on Wednesdays beginning on Oct. 5th through May 17th, 5:30-7:30 pm at St. Casimir's.  Dinner is provided 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. We have content for the whole family and cannot wait to see you!

    • Preparing for First Communion (Growing up Catholic)
      • First Communion

Growing Up Catholic provides students and parents, with a deeper understanding of the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. All children wishing to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist for the first time participate in this sacramental preparation. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate with their children as much as possible as they learn about God's forgiveness and the Holy Eucharist.

        FAQs

        Q: When do we start?
        A:
Our first Growing Up Catholic Session is September 28, 2022, 5:30-6:30 in Holy Family Hall at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.

Q: What is the time commitment?
        A:
We will meet monthly to help you prepare your child(ren) for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist and will have an activity day on a Saturday in the spring.

Q: Does my child need to register for Growing Up Catholic if he/she attends the Catholic School?

A:  Yes.  While our Catholic Schools provide faith-based education, specific preparation for reception of the sacraments is the responibility of the parents and the parish.  Growing Up Catholic is an excellent tool designed to help you prepare your child to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist for the first time while the parish walks with and assists you.

    • Confirmation Preparation
      • Starting Sept. 21st, 2022, Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00pm at Cathedral, Holy Family Hall.  Register below!

        Dear Applicants for Confirmation:

Welcome to your Confirmation year! It’s a BIG year! Confirmation helps you know who you are and what it means to be a child of God. Confirmation will increase in you the Gifts of understanding, wisdom, courage, right judgement, knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe. Sounds useful, right?

This is also a year of discernment for you. Confirmation is NOT for future ex-Catholics. It is for those who desire to have their hearts set on fire to be channels of the power of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is for those who desire to be united to Christ and His Church more fully and to boldly proclaim Jesus in word, attitude, and action.

Whew! Preparing for this awesome sacrament is serious business. We want to help you be as prepared as possible so that when the day of your Confirmation comes, you can experience the effects of the sacrament begin to come alive in your life.

That is why we have adopted Chosen from Ascension Press for your preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This 25-week course will allow us to dive deeply into our astonishing Catholic Faith so that you know just whose mission you are pledging to take up when you are anointed with the Holy Spirit on the day of your Confirmation.

You have amazing potential! YOU can change the world for the better. As Saint Catherine of Siena famously said, “Be who you were created to be, and you will set the world on fire.”

The Church recognizes YOU as your child’s primary educator in the life of faith. Your role is pivotal as your child prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and to be fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Therefore, it is essential that you accompany your child on their journey toward Confirmation. If you are unable to attend all the sessions, your child may also be accompanied by his or her sponsor.

You may feel enthusiastic and eager to be involved in the formation process, or you may feel unsure about your role or even about the Faith. Whatever your personal situation, be encouraged by the fact that God loves you and your child without limit. This limitless love—which is the core of our Catholic Faith—is very good news indeed. May the Holy Spirit inspire and encourage you as you guide your child into the fullness of the Faith.
